Come Sail With Us

Most of this page concerns our Friday sailing trip on Lake Travis. But first, on Thursday, we met Erika Zettl for lunch. Tony Zettl was a colleague of mine at N.I.U. in the math department.
I couldn't picture her since she was a little girl when I last saw her. But after I met her now, I clearly remembered her from then. She's now living in Austin and emailed us while on our trip.
Welcome to Lake Travis. This is a very long serpentine lake just west of Austin which was formed by a dam at the bottom of this map.

Brett was a merchant marine for much of his young life and traveled the world in that capacity. Now he owns a small sailboat that holds at most four persons. He took Dustan, Jenelle and Ruth first and then Elaine, Ruth  and me. Here are the pictures and the story.

This was more complicated then I ever believed. Comparable

and they are off;  Brett, Ruth and the kids.

The camera below points to the lake. You can use the url  http://www.austinyachtclub.org/WX/cam.htm to see the lake in real time and even adjust the direction it is pointing. From that page, Click Video Cam, then Advanced: Camera Control.
We had trouble with horizons.
The rest were taken by my Nikon. I must have had the aperture set to fixed and they were terribly overexposed.
I tried to fix them in Photoshop with mixed results.
Brett's Dad's Mercedes has a hitch.
Almost done. Gotta roll up the sail first. It was a very fun day.
NEXT, our Saturday Party and our Trip Home
After nearly an hour, the sail of Brett's boat signals that he is back from the trip with the Levensteins.
Nice shot of me and my daughter below.
Now it's our turn. Click HERE to see our sailing route.
The horizon was 43 degrees off. This is what it should have been
